Appellation: Alsace
Terroir: Kessler means the cauldron. This South and South-East terroir protected from the Northern winds, create wine with power and warmth which is why the ‘Fire’ element is linked to this unique Grand Cru. The soils are made of sand, clay and Vosgien sandstone from the Bundsandstein, those soils are red in colour. It’s also import to note the altitude of this vineyard 300 to 390 m and it’s steep exposure.
Grapes: Riesling (100%)
Farming: Organic & Biodymamic (certified)
Aromatics: Flowers, fleshy ripe white fruits and sweet spices. A nuances and complex nose with plenty of warmth and generosity.
Palate: Structured white with plenty of power and concentration. With this wine it’s like putting the volume up everything is deeper and more detailed. The balance and acidity in the wine is beautiful and the length stunning.
About the wine: Work of the soil by ploughing to encourage deep roots for a better terroir expression. The vines that make this wine are in average 41 years old. Hand-picked, whole bunch pressing “a l’Alsacienne” with a pneumatic press, fermentation with natural yeast. Ageing on lees for 11 months.
When to drink: Drink now or in the next 10 years after vintage.
Service: 8 to 10 C degrees in Riesling glass.
Food match: Lobster, crayfish, truffled potatoes carpaccio, sea food platter, fish in sauce, goat or sheep cheese
