Appellation: AOC L'Etoile (Jura region)
Grapes: Chardonnay, Savagnin
Farming: Organic (not certified)
Aromatics: On the nose this is Jura meets Burgundy. Here we are looking at a beautiful mix of oxidative Jura notes: spice, fresh white fruits and subtle oak.
Palate: Aromatics continue through to the palate, with the introduction of red apple. This wine is concentrated and powerful, building length as it goes with high purity and elegance. This is a very fine expression of Jura Chardonnay.
About the wine: Vines planted in 1930 by Victor Gros founder of Montbourgeau, high density plantings with 10 000 vines per hectares on marl terroir - very low yield. Aged in foudre and then in barrique, not topped up.
When to drink: Now or drink in the next 10 years.
Service: Serving temperature 8 to 10 degree C, use large Burgundy glass.
Food match: Old Comté! Chicken curry or roasted lobster.
