Appellation: Santenay (Burgundy region)
Style: Red
Terroir: clay and limestone. This vineyard is located on the slope of Santenay just above the 1er Cru Clos Rousseau, benefiting from a South East facing exposure and sitting at an altitude of 260m.
Grapes: Pinot Noir (100%)
Farming: Organic (not certified)
Aromatics: Elegant and lifted wines, with strawberries, red flowers and subtle spices on the nose. We love it’s pretty Cote de Beaune Pinot and almost Volnay-esque personality.
Palate: Medium bodied wine with a savoury and complex mouthfeel. Expect more red berries like on the nose as well as black berries and soft tannins. Lovely finish that make it a classic Burgundy wine with beautiful subtle earthy feel from great Burgundy style from the past. Once again at Mosaique we love a Volnay and think this Santenay a great and affordable substitute; if like us you like this style.
About the wine: 45 years old vines. The grapes are hand harvested, sorted and partially vinified whole bunches depending on the vintage. Long natural fermentation and maceration. Ageing 14 months in French oak barrels mostly old oak. No added winemaking producer even no sulphur during vinification. A small amount of sulphur is added before bottling yet the wines are elegant and precise. No filtration and no fining.
When to drink: Ready to drink now or in the next 4-5 years after vintage.
Service: 14-16 degrees, Pinot Noir glass.
Food match: Roasted white meats, game birds, grilled red meats, slow cooked dishes.
